Why Is Mechanical Ventilation Important
Since our childhood, we hear the elders saying one thing, to open the doors and windows for proper ventilation to let the fresh air come in. Well, after all, fresh air is lifeline for humans. If it was an ideal world, we would have been breathing fresh and healthy air. However, this isn’t possible with today’s lifestyle. We spend most of the time indoors, be it inside our homes or office along with a lot of other people. Thus, if you think that indoor air is healthy and safe, you could be wrong. This is where the ventilation system comes into the picture.
What importance and what is mechanical ventilation
What is ventilation?
Ventilation is a process in which the indoor air is collected and removed while the clean and fresh air from the outside is supplied to the indoors. There are many different types of ventilation systems that can be installed to provide fresh air such as air curtains, air filtration, air recirculation, and exhaust fans. Ventilation is extremely essential for commercial and industrial places. It is not only about providing fresh air to indoors, but also about controlling the temperature, humidity, and air circulation.
Why is ventilation important?
There are different types of ventilation systems that can be installed in our homes and offices to improve the quality of indoor air. In current times, with so many people working in the same place and the outside air being polluted, the natural ventilation is not considered as an ideal system. Moreover, natural ventilation system cannot control the moisture and humidity factor and could become the reason for the spread of diseases. If you have a commercial plant or a factory where you want to have a controlled environment, then it becomes essential that you install a ventilation system. It is essential for the health of workers that such places are ventilated properly.
What is mechanical ventilation?
Ventilation has its own importance in medical field. Mechanical ventilators are machines that help the patients breathe when their lungs are incapable of doing so. These machines are often used during surgeries and for the patients who are facing severe illness. These machines are connected to the patient with the help of artificial airways. These pipes or airways are attached to the mouth of the patient. Patients are kept on mechanical ventilation until they recover and can breathe by themselves.
Mechanical ventilation helps patients breath normally if they are suffering from any kind of lung-related illness or if they are unable to breath properly due to any other reasons. It’s a critical piece of equipment and its requirement has seen a tremendous growth ever since the advent of Covid-19 which affects the lungs.
Why is mechanical ventilation essential?
- If patients are suffering from illness that prevents them from breathing, then mechanical ventilation will help them breath without putting any exertion on the lungs.
- It allows patients to recover properly.
- It helps the patients to get enough oxygen and clear CO2.
- It helps in preventing injuries caused from aspiration.
However, people must understand that mechanical ventilation is not a cure. It helps them breathe and keeps them alive but mechanical ventilation cannot be the cure. This can be understood from the current times where patients who suffering from Covid-19 are put on ventilator but they do not survive since it doesn’t eliminate the problem but only prevents it from aggravating. This, is why so many patients who are fighting for life and have trouble breathing are put on ventilation system by doctors so that they recover faster.
