5 things to keep in mind when you go for screen printing

Unique and distinctive designs related to simple graphic design or geometric design or just your brand name on the T-shirt, it is possible through screen printing. The requirements vary to different corporate offices, organizations or sports events.  The eye-catching and unique design is made by a technique called screen printing and many design houses are opting for this technique to create lasting and dynamic designs for apparels or mementos

What are screen printing and a few tips to keep in mind

While this is one of the oldest printing techniques, screen printing has become more popular in recent years as the efficiency and final output are of far better quality than another process like a heat press machine. The process includes ink being transferred through a stencil or mesh in order to get a particular design imprinted on a particular material. The ink is transferred to the areas where the screen allows it and one screen will allow one color at a time. This technique ensures that the screen printing output is long-lasting, and the design is crisp in terms of color and lines. But to get the best out of the technique, there are certain dos and don’ts that you must follow.

These 5 pointers should be kept in mind when you are opting for screen printing:

1.    The mesh and the screws holding it in place should be checked after each color run. Whether you are using different meshes for color or not, the constant runs might cause the screws to come to loose which will lead to the prints getting blurred. This is not uncommon and hence attention must be paid constantly to the said joints.

2.    Know which type of mesh and screen works on what material will help you achieve higher quality finished products. Usually, low mesh counts get most of the screen printing done fine but if you are looking for gradients, photorealism, high definition or halftones then you need to stock up on finer mesh screens in your cart.

3.    The fabric on which you are getting the screen printing done also determines the mesh and ink that you are required to use in order to achieve the desires crisp effect. The best way to go is choosing natural fabrics, especially cotton, as they absorb ink better and lasts longer. If you want to print on finer fabric or synthetics, then you need to work on a design that will rock the washed-out vintage look as that is the sort of print you will be obtaining.

4.    The design to be printed should be of high resolution as the lower screen resolution will result is a blurry screen printing. The design should be given enough time in terms of separating colors adjusting the resolution and making sure that the image itself is placed properly on the palette.

5.    Another important part of the whole printing process is the ink that is used for screen printing should be cured properly, i.e. the temperature required to cure should be met. Follow the guidelines that the ink manufacturer has set in order to get better quality ink for better printing.

The technique of screen printing is efficient and yields profits in terms of quality finished products and satisfied customers. Whether you are opting to know about this technique to start a customized products business or you decide to indulge in this as a hobby, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing your design come to life in such a beautiful and colorful manner.
